Disputing Darwin
By Alan Caruba
10 Feb 11 - Darwin’s theories of evolution were quite revolutionary in his time. And since! Even Darwin, had he ever known about magnetic reversals would have had to revise his theories.

Anti-government protests broken up in Yemen and Algeria ~ link ~ It is spreading!   Stirling
Algerian riot police push back anti-government protesters in Algiers - 12 February 2011 A heavy security presence contained the protest in Algiers then broke it up
Anti-government rallies in the capitals of Algeria and Yemen, inspired by events in Egypt, have been broken up.
Riot police in Algiers dispersed thousands of people who had defied a government ban to demand that President Abdelaziz Bouteflika step down.

A similar march in Yemen's capital, Sanaa, calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to leave office was attacked by government supporters. Egypt's Hosni Mubarak stepped down on Friday after 18 days of mass protests. Both Yemen and Algeria, like other countries in the region, have recently witnessed demonstrations for greater freedoms and improved living standards.

Uptick in solar activity as tectonic plate agitation ebbs

Sunspot breakout: February 11, 2011 to February 13, 2011
Sunspot formation on the solar surface has accelerated just as tectonic plate agitation has ebbed though we still see chaotic seismic patterns in the South Pacific region, around the Caribbean, Chile, Brazil, Tonga and Kermadec volcanic arc, and New Zealand. And sure enough, the seismic tremors along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge running through Iceland have subsided just as global tectonic plate agitation has abated. It’s a volatile situation and any sizable quake eruption could reset the process. Stay tuned.

(Top Graph) Iceland seismic activity wanes as seismic activity on Norway and Findland seismic telemetry graphs also abates, indicating the Iceland episode was agitated by tectonic plate stresses.

Sudden death of 20,000 bees in Toronto exhibit dismays experts

February 12, 2011 - TORONTO – A Toronto museum is investigating the sudden death of thousands of bees in a glass-enclosed beehive exhibit. Officials at the Royal Ontario Museum said 20,000 bees in a biodiversity exhibit had died within two days last week, though they had appeared healthy. Scientists have ruled out staff error and starvation, but said poor ventilation, disease or a lack of worker bees could be to blame. The museum plans to replace the colony in the spring. “The queen stops laying eggs in early- to mid-October and starts laying again in late February,” University of Guelph researcher Janine McGowan told the Toronto Star newspaper. “If she didn’t lay enough winter worker bee eggs to make sure the hive and honey is kept warm during the winter, that could have contributed to the die-off.” The bees were part of the biodiversity exhibit at the ROM. They were viewed through a special glass hive and staff say there was no sign that anything was wrong. The bees, they say, were perfectly healthy until late last week. Then, within two days, they were all dead.”  -BBC
The news comes on the heels of reports of the mass-death of animals across the globe.

Dodging plasma bullets as solar activity intensifies

February 12, 2011 – Solar activity is intensifying and a breakout of sunspots now dot the solar surface. Seems like we’re not the only one talking about planet Earth’s miraculous streak of luck that has heretofore avoided nearly every turbulent event on the Sun for the last 152 years since the Carrington Event… but one day, as we have said repeatedly and as prophets and the prophecies have warned, Earth’s lucky streak of near-misses will one day come to an abrupt end (Rev. 16:8).

DODGING PLASMA BULLETS: The remains of old sunspot complex 1147-1149 are rotating over the eastern limb today. Although the region is in an advanced state of decay, it’s not dead yet. During the late hours of Feb. 11th, a plasma bullet came rocketing out of the region’s unstable core. The eruption was not geoeffective. Earth’s magnetic field will remain undisturbed as the ‘bullet’ sails wide-left of our planet over the weekend. This region has been spitting plasma and crackling with flares since it first emerged more than a month ago on Jan. 10th. Remarkably, however, every eruption so far has missed Earth. Why? It’s just luck: Most of the blasts occurred while AR1147-1149 was on the far side of the sun. Statistically speaking, a plasma bullet in our direction may be overdue. Stay tuned. –Space Weather

Iceland shaken by second more intense swarm of tremors

February 12, 2011ICELAND – This is the 2nd wave or swarm of tremors to strike Iceland from the planetary tremor event that is still rattling tectonic plates across the globe. This 2nd seismic band is more intense and is erupting along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that will one day split the Icelandic land mass into.  (Left) The Mid-Atlantic Ridge that runs through Iceland is shown with volcanoes along the Rift. As the rift widens, more magma is ejected into the volcanic chambers underneath the landscape. (Below) The seismographs for the Arctic area including Norway and Finland shows the dense band of seismic waves that is unsettling the region.

Japanese volcano erupts for the 10th time

February 12, 2011KAGOSHIMA (Kyodo) — The Shinmoe Peak, a volcano on the border of Kagoshima and Miyazaki prefectures in southern Japan, erupted again Friday after a seven-day hiatus, marking its 10th eruption since late January. The latest eruption occurred at 11:36 a.m. at the 1,421-meter-high volcano in the Kirishima range, spewing columns of smoke up to about 2,500 meters. The previous eruption was observed on Feb. 3. The Kagoshima Local Meteorological Observatory said it measured 244.3 pascals of air pressure disturbance at an observatory point some 3 kilometers southwest of the volcanic crater, adding it observed some relatively large volcanic stones falling. During its fourth eruption on the morning of Feb. 1, the local observatory reported 458 pascals of air pressure disturbance which shattered window glasses of houses and buildings. The latest series of eruptions at the Shinmoe Peak began on Jan. 26. Researchers said that it had its first major eruption in 52 years and that they observed eruptions with magma for the first time in 189 years.   -Mainichi Times

Planetary tremor 2-11: Earth inching closer to major geological upheaval

February 12, 2011The Extinction Protocol – We will try to lay out the magnitude of the event which just erupted on our planet. It began with small seismic band waves rippling across tectonic plates on February 10, 2011 and by the time the kinetic energy had crested, plates were experiencing agitation across the globe. The 21:00-22:00 GMT planetary tremor of February 11 saw seismographs across the planet going into the black as two massive back-to-back quakes of 6.7 and 6.5 magnitudes struck the Celebes Sea near the Philippines.
The North American plate and the Eurasian plate trembled along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, running through Iceland, as they were being pulled apart. We monitored no less than about 87 tremors over the span of a few hours along the MAR running through Iceland (left). These Icelandic tremors were followed by jarring jolts of the Pacific Plate and a rumbling of the African plate which produced subsequent tremors along the Eastern Rift Valley. The Nazca plate was being shoved under the South American plate creating a dragging obstruction which rippled along the coast of Chile with two massive quakes, a 6.8 and a 6.1 erupting in Bio Bio, just off the coast of Chile. This has put inordinate strain on the Cocos and Caribbean plates making the region of Central America and the Caribbean area more unstable and prone to additional catastrophic seismic disturbances in the near future.

The Event: Seismograph readings from Barbados, Chile, Cuba and Kenya
We rank this planetary tremor event as the strongest we’ve seen so far and believe this is evidence that these episodes are now increasing in scope and intensity and could soon ignite volcanic arcs and zones across the span of the globe. (Left) Magnetospheric flux pattern change during onset of planetary event. And though few can see it because they are absorbed in worldly enterprise or transfixed on political events sweeping across the globe, planet Earth is inching that much closer to major geological upheaval.                 (c) 2011

6.8 and 6.3 earthquakes strike off the coast of Chile

February 11, 2011CAUQUENES, Chile – A magnitude 6.8 followed by a 6.3 earthquake struck central Chile Friday, centered in almost exactly the same spot where last year’s magnitude-8.8 quake spawned a tsunami and devastated coastal communities. Electricity and phone service were disrupted and thousands of people fled to higher ground following Friday’s quake, but the government quickly announced that there was no risk of a tsunami, and there were no reports of damage or injuries. President Sebastian Pinera appealed for calm and praised his government and Chileans in general for responding quickly. ”Today we’re better prepared,” Pinera said. “I think we’ve learned the lesson of Feb. 27, 2010.” Rodrigo Ubilla, the vice interior minister, said the navy had “totally discounted any risk of a tsunami.” Still, the strong earthquake frightened many Chileans, especially along the coast, where people quickly moved to higher ground. ”There was a preventive self-evacuation,” said Vicente Nunez, who directs the National Emergency Office, ONEMI. But he said Chileans could safely return home. Residents fled their homes in Talcahuano, a port city whose center was ravaged last year by huge walls of water that sent shipping containers and fishing boats into downtown buildings and streets, municipal spokesman Javier Gonzalez told The Associated Press. Skyscrapers swayed in the capital of Santiago, and in the inland town of Cauquenes, mothers ran into the streets carrying babies in their arms. -CBS News

Wild animals in Michigan on the move in search of food

February 11, 2011 - MICHIGAN - MORE FREQUENT SIGHTINGS. Coyotes and a number of birds of prey are being spotted more frequently in southeastern Michigan as they are growing in numbers and spreading out in search of food. This bald eagle has been hanging around the 34 Mile and McKay area for the past couple of weeks. Bald eagles, hawks and owls are federally protected.  Hannah Schauer, a wildlife technician for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), said the increase in the number of coyotes in areas such as Armada, Bruce and Washington townships doesn’t surprise her. In addition to coyotes, Schauer said bald eagles, bears and a number of hawk species are moving southward from upper Michigan. -Romeo Observer
“Around the world, the reports coming in of urban encroachment of alligators, coyotes, bears, large game cats, as well as plagues of locusts, wasps, jellyfish, and other pests is testament that the homeostatic balance that once regulated the natural world is breaking down and the borders that separated man from natural wildlife habitats are dissolving.” The Extinction Protocol, page 294

4 Best Methods for Off-the-Grid Food Production

Activist Post

For most of us producing all of our own food is just a fantasy. It evokes visions of multiple acres of fertile land, long work days, and expensive machinery. However, none of these are necessary to achieve self-sufficient food production.

There are many gardening techniques that can produce an abundance of food for you and your family without requiring a lot of space, money or equipment. What each of these methods will require is your time, but not the dawn-to-dusk work hours associated with farming.

Rather, you will need time to study and practice these methods and other food preparation skills such as learning to mill your own wheat or corn flour to make breads, tortillas, pastas from scratch, or learning to can, pickle, or preserve food in all its forms.

Your diet should also be considered when planning for the best self-sufficient food production method.  Do you need meat and dairy products? How much grains do you require? Yes, in order fully produce all of your food off-the-grid, you may have to make changes to your current diet if your resources are limited.  Some may view these as dietary sacrifices, yet the folks that can claim a high level of food self-reliance will all claim their diet is far healthier than the average American.

With dedication and proper planning, everyone has the ability to survive the looming food crisis by producing their own food.  None of the following methods should necessarily be considered by itself.  Each offers unique techniques that can be mixed and matched for the best results.  Their optimal application depends on calculations of your property size, climate zone, or your budget and time constraints.

Here are the 4 best food production methods for self-reliance:

1. Permaculture Gardening: Permaculture is where you design an entire edible habitat based on the natural capital of your setting. Then, place plants to methodically balance the soil, water, and pests. For instance, a nitrogen fixing plant may be planted next to a nitrogen hungry plant, which may sit next to an ornamental that deters predators, and so on. Permaculture gardening re-creates nature by using a large variety of plants while incorporating as many different animals as feasible like chickens, goats, ducks, and bees.  You may also see features like vertical gardening and aquaculture ponds in permaculture designs depending on the space available. Utilizing this method is not expensive, but requires a lot of know-how and trial and error. Permaculture gardening can produce massive abundance.  See the amazing video below for a real-world example of going off-the-grid in suburbia:

100-Degree Warm-Up Ahead for Some States Next Weeklink

A major, prolonged warm-up is finally on the way for the eastern two-thirds of the nation next week.
After a record-shattering, frigid morning with lows well below zero in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Kansas Thursday, temperatures could jump nearly 100 degrees in some areas by late next week.
A change in the overall weather pattern will allow milder air to spread through this region, as well as the rest of the Plains, Midwest and parts of the East, over the next few days. A more substantial warm-up will follow next week.
In the areas of Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas where temperatures dropped between 20° and 30° below zero F Thursday morning, highs in the 60s are in the forecast for late next week.

In some areas, temperatures could even make a run for 70°. This would be close to a 100-degree warm-up from Thursday morning's frigid lows.
The warmer air will also help to melt the record-setting snowstorm that dropped up to 1 to 2 feet of snow in those areas Tuesday into Wednesday of this week.
Milder air will also overspread the rest of the Plains, Midwest and parts of the East over the next few days with the most substantial warming coming toward the middle and end of next week.
AccuWeather.com Chief Long Range Forecaster Joe Bastardi has been highlighting the potential for an 80-degree day in Dallas, Texas and a 70-degree day in Washington, D.C., in the next week or two.
Keep in mind though, one of the last places to warm up in this pattern will be the Northeast.
