Scientists in Iceland are warning that another volcano on the island looks set to erupt, threatening to spew-out a blanket of dust that would dwarf last year's eruption.

Geologists detected the high risk of a new eruption after noticing an increased swarm of earthquakes around the island's second largest volcano Bárdarbunga.

Pall Einarsson, a professor of geophysics at the University of Iceland, says the area around Bárdarbunga is showing signs of increased activity, which provides 'good reason to worry'.

US Midwest braces for new round of snow ~ linkA large swathe of the US South and Midwest still digging out from last week's huge snowfall faced more wintry weather Wednesday as the fifth major storm of the season forced several states to close schools and kept many residents homebound.

The powerful winter storm began coating parts of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas late Tuesday, barely a week after millions of Americans dug out from one of the largest storms since the 1950s massive storm that dumped snow, ice and sleet over a huge stretch of America's midsection. A total of nine states faced a winter storm warning, complete with bone-chilling temperatures and a headache-inducing wintry mix. Up to 20 inches (51 centimeters) of snow were forecast for Oklahoma, accompanied by "dangerous wind chills" between zero and minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit (-18 to -23 Celsius), the National Weather Service said.

Another blow for families: Fastest rise in prices of staple foods in five years ~ link ~ In many nations people spend up to 80% of their income on food.  Rising food prices to them mean death from starvation for themselves and their children.  So do not be surprised to see riots and revolutions all over the World as the twin effects of the BP Climate Change on food production and the manipulation of food prices by the global banksters continues.  Stirling

Army deploys more tanks in Cairo ~ link ~
Egyptian anti-Mubarak protesters camp out next to Army tanks and armored vehicles near Liberation Square in Cairo, Egypt, Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2011.

Reports say Egyptian armed forces have stationed a large column of tanks and mechanized infantry vehicles in and around Cairo's Liberation Square.Reports also say hundreds of plain clothes police and vigilantes have stepped up their crackdown on pro-democracy protesters in various parts of Egypt.

It comes as thousands of protesters are camping outside the parliament as part of their campaign to topple President Hosni Mubarak. Pro-democracy protesters have also attempted to block the parliament building.

Opposition parties plan a massive march towards the Presidential Palace on Friday.

Egyptian opposition leaders say the revolution will expand and Mubarak's regime has to go. Opposition leader Ayman Nour has told press TV that the Egyptian revolution will go on until it topples Mubarak and his associates. Tensions are running high across the country as protests continue for the 16th straight day.

Hundreds of people have been killed or wounded in two days of clashes between police and demonstrators in the southern Kharga city.

Hundreds of protesters have been killed and wounded in Kharga in southern Egypt, as the nationwide revolution in the crisis-hit country enters its 16th consecutive day.

Egyptian security forces targeted the anti-government protesters with live bullets on Wednesday, killing at least five protesters and wounding hundreds of others.

Cairo's Liberation Square remained flooded with demonstrators who call on embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to step down, a Press TV correspondent reported.

The independent organization Human Rights Watch has so far put the death toll at almsot 300, after visiting just nine hospitals in troubled Egypt.

As Egyptians are out on the streets for the 16th straight day, newly appointed Vice President Omar Suleiman says the government cannot tolerate the protests for long.

Suleiman made the remark as over 50,000 protesters on Tuesday blocked newly-appointed Premier Ahmed Shafiq from entering his office in the Egyptian capital, calling for his immediate resignation and those of all the others in the cabinet.

Egypt Revolutionaries gain ground - with video ~ link ~ The Egyptian cabinet building in Cairo has been evacuated and officials relocated after pro-democracy protesters gathered outside, sources tell Al Jazeera.
Pro-democracy demonstrations are gaining momentum in the Egyptian capital, with some protesters moving from Tahrir [Liberation] Square to camp out in the area outside the parliament buildings. Protesters are demanding the assembly's immediate dissolution. Wednesday's developments came as public rallies calling for Hosni Mubarak to hand over power immediately entered their sixteenth day.

The president's message has thus far been that he will not leave until his term expires in September.
As a gesture of goodwill, 34 political prisoners, including members of the banned opposition group, Muslim Brotherhood, were reportedly released over the last two days.

The government seems to be scrambling under pressure from major powers and pro-democracy supporters, Al Jazeera's Stefanie Dekker reported from Cairo.

Egypt Revolution: Parliament rally as US seeks progress - with video ~ link ~ We are close either to the Revolution meeting with success, or more likely to considerable violence.  Those fools in the Israeli government who are seeking the current regime to stay (perhaps without Mubarak) are nuts!  The longer and worst the revolution goes on the worst it will be for Israel, but once again they seem to be blinded to the truth even when it involves their survival.   Stirling

Small flock of swans found dead in Ireland

February 9, 2011IRELAND – Government veterinary officers are working to establish how five swans died in the County Down area. It is understood two more birds are ill. The dead birds’ remains were found on private land in the Killyleagh area. A spokesman for the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (Dard) said the swans had been removed so that post-mortem exams could be carried out. “This is the second case that has been brought to our attention,” he said. “The first case was investigated by Dard and the post mortem revealed lesions suggestive of bacterial infection.” “We would ask the public to refer to the Dard website or helpline for information on the types of bird deaths that we would like to be brought to our attention, so that Dard can monitor the situation and respond. -BBC

Mexico’s produce wiped out by freeze- 80 to 100% losses

February 9, 2011 MEXICO ENACTS FORCE MAJEURE: All of our growers have invoked the Act of God clause on our contracts due to the following release: We will be contacting you personally to review how this will affect our contracted items with you going forward. The devastating freeze in México is the worst freeze in over 50 years…The extreme  freezing temperatures hit a very broad section of major growing regions in México, from Hermosillo on the North all the way South to Los Mochis and even South to Culiacan. The early reports are still coming in but most are showing losses of crops in the range of 80 to 100%. This time of year, Mexico supplies a significant percent of North America’s row of crop vegetables such as: GREEN BEANS, EGGPLANT, CUCUMBERS, SQUASH, PEPPERS, ASPARAGUS, AND ROUND AND ROMA TOMATOES. Florida normally is a major supplier for these items as well but they have already been struck with severe freeze damage in December and January and up until now have had to purchase product out of México to fill their commitments, THAT IS NO LONGER AN OPTION… -BBS Radio

Leap? Cambodian girl dies from H5N1 bird flu infection

February 9, 2011 - CAMBODIA – PHNOM PENHA five-year-old Cambodian girl has died from bird flu, the World Health Organisation said Wednesday, in the first reported fatality from the virus since early last year. The girl fell ill in the capital Phnom Penh on January 30 and was taken to hospital with symptoms of coughing and shortness of breath, a joint statement from Cambodia and the UN’s public health arm said. She died on February 4. “Despite intensive medical care, the girl died 12 hours after admission from complications,” it said. The child is the 11th person in the country to become infected with the H5N1 virus and ninth to die since 2003. Cambodia said it was working to identify her close contacts and “to initiate preventive treatment as required.” Health Minister Mam Bun Heng urged people with respiratory infections who had been in “contact with dead or sick poultry to promptly seek medical attention.” According to the statement, the H5N1 avian influenza strain has killed more than 300 people worldwide since 2003. -AP     See why we forecasted a possible H5N1 pandemic

Freak flash-flood drowns more than 200 sheep in Wales

February 9, 2011WALES - A farmer says he is “devastated” after seeing more than 200 of his elite sheep drowned in a flash flood. It is the second time in just over a year that Eryl Morris has been hit by the River Dee bursting its banks. The flood, early on Sunday, has cost him many thousands of pounds and the pride of his flock. Mr. Morris was away in Buckinghamshire helping a sheep farming friend when millions of gallons of water poured on to the rich Bangor-on-Dee grazing land he has farmed for more than a decade. Almost too upset to speak from the south of England yesterday, he said: “I am totally devastated by this – I have lost a hell of a lot sheep.” His wife Glenys said: “It was 12 hours of flash flooding that did the damage and it started about 1am. “When I heard on the radio that Bala was flooded I knew we were in trouble too. “The same thing happened to us in November, 2009, but although we lost some sheep then – about 40-50 – it wasn’t anything like this. “Altogether 230 of our sheep have died and another 70 were saved by the fire service and other people who were going out there in canoes I think. This is a terrible blow, not only because of the cost of losing the sheep, which must run into thousands of pounds, but also the type of animals they were. –The Leader.co.uk

Solar activity increases- magnetosphere displays more chaotic patterns

February 9, 2011 – Sunspots have increased on the solar surface and according to Space Weather, solar activity is heating up. Formerly quiet sunspot 1153 is suddenly crackling with C- and M-class solar flares. NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory recorded this eruption during the waning hours of Feb. 8th. Because sunspot 1153 is rounding the sun’s western horizon, these eruptions are not Earth-directed. They are, however, Venus-directed. The second planet from the sun could receive glancing blows from solar plasma clouds in the days ahead. –Space Weather
