8 Feb 11 -
Here's an announcement to its customers that I'm told came directly from Sysco Foods.

ALL OF OUR GROWERS HAVE INVOKED THE ACT OF GOD CLAUSE ON OUR CONTRACTS (Force majuere) DUE TO THE FOLLOWING RELEASE. WE WILL BE CONTACTING YOU PERSONALLY TO REVIEW HOW THIS WILL AFFECT OUR CONTRACTED ITEMS WITH YOU GOING FORWARD.

THE DEVASTATING FREEZE IN MEXICO IS WORST FREEZE IN OVER 50 YEARS...

THE EXTREME FREEZING TEMPERATURES HIT A VERY BROAD SECTION OF MAJOR GROWING REGIONS IN MEXICO, FROM HERMOSILLO IN THE NORTH ALL THE WAY SOUTH TO LOS MOCHIS AND EVEN SOUTH OF CULIACAN. THE EARLY REPORTS ARE STILL COMING IN BUT MOST ARE SHOWING LOSSES OF CROPS IN THE RANGE OF 80 TO 100%.
EVEN SHADE HOUSE PRODUCT WAS HIT BY THE EXTREMELY COLD TEMPS. IT WILL TAKE 7-10 DAYS TO HAVE A CLEARER PICTURE FROM GROWERS AND FIELD SUPERVISORS, BUT THESE GROWING REGIONS HAVEN'T HAD COLD LIKE THIS IN OVER A HALF CENTURY.

THIS TIME OF YEAR, MEXICO SUPPLIES A SIGNIFICANT PERCENT OF NORTH AMERICA'S ROW CROP VEGETABLES SUCH AS: GREEN BEANS, EGGPLANT, CUCUMBERS, SQUASH, PEPPERS, ASPARAGUS, AND ROUND AND ROMA TOMATOES.

FLORIDA NORMALLY IS A MAJOR SUPPLIER FOR THESE ITEMS AS WELL BUT THEY HAVE ALREADY BEEN STRUCK WITH SEVERE FREEZE DAMAGE IN DECEMBER AND JANUARY AND UP UNTIL NOW HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE PRODUCT OUT OF MEXICO TO FILL THEIR COMMITMENTS, THAT IS NO LONGER AND OPTION.

WITH THE SERIES OF WEATHER DISASTERS THAT HAS OCCURRED IN BOTH OF THESE MAJOR GROWING AREAS WE WILL EXPERIENCE IMMEDIATE VOLATILE PRICES, EXPECTED LIMITED AVAILABILITY, AND MEDIOCRE QUALITY AT BEST.

THIS WILL NOT ONLY HAVE AN IMMEDIATE IMPACT ON SUPPLIES, BUT BECAUSE OF VERY STRONG BLOSSOM DROPS, THIS WILL ALSO IMPACT SUPPLIES 30 – 60 DAYS FROM NOW. SOME GROWERS ARE MEETING WITH THEIR BOARDS RIGHT NOW TO DETERMINE WHETHER THEY SHOULD IMMEDIATELY RE-PLANT, HOPING FOR A HARVEST BY LATE-MARCH-TO-EARLY-APRIL, OR WHETHER THEY SHOULD DISC THE FIELDS UNDER AND WAIT FOR ANOTHER SEASON.

We are doing everything we can with our growers to minimize the
effect of this disaster on you. With the unprecedented magnitude
of this event we wanted to immediately make you aware of the
conditions. We will continue to send out communications as our
people on the ground report back to us. We thank you and we
appreciate your understanding during this time.

Planetary tremor 2-11: Earth inching closer to major geological upheaval

February 12, 2011The Extinction Protocol – We will try to lay out the magnitude of the event which just erupted on our planet. It began with small seismic band waves rippling across tectonic plates on February 10, 2011 and by the time the kinetic energy had crested, plates were experiencing agitation across the globe. The 21:00-22:00 GMT planetary tremor of February 11 saw seismographs across the planet going into the black as two massive back-to-back quakes of 6.7 and 6.5 magnitudes struck the Celebes Sea near the Philippines.
The North American plate and the Eurasian plate trembled along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, running through Iceland, as they were being pulled apart. We monitored no less than about 87 tremors over the span of a few hours along the MAR running through Iceland (left). These Icelandic tremors were followed by jarring jolts of the Pacific Plate and a rumbling of the African plate which produced subsequent tremors along the Eastern Rift Valley. The Nazca plate was being shoved under the South American plate creating a dragging obstruction which rippled along the coast of Chile with two massive quakes, a 6.8 and a 6.1 erupting in Bio Bio, just off the coast of Chile. This has put inordinate strain on the Cocos and Caribbean plates making the region of Central America and the Caribbean area more unstable and prone to additional catastrophic seismic disturbances in the near future.

The Event: Seismograph readings from Barbados, Chile, Cuba and Kenya
We rank this planetary tremor event as the strongest we’ve seen so far and believe this is evidence that these episodes are now increasing in scope and intensity and could soon ignite volcanic arcs and zones across the span of the globe. (Left) Magnetospheric flux pattern change during onset of planetary event. And though few can see it because they are absorbed in worldly enterprise or transfixed on political events sweeping across the globe, planet Earth is inching that much closer to major geological upheaval.                 (c) 2011

6.8 and 6.3 earthquakes strike off the coast of Chile

February 11, 2011CAUQUENES, Chile – A magnitude 6.8 followed by a 6.3 earthquake struck central Chile Friday, centered in almost exactly the same spot where last year’s magnitude-8.8 quake spawned a tsunami and devastated coastal communities. Electricity and phone service were disrupted and thousands of people fled to higher ground following Friday’s quake, but the government quickly announced that there was no risk of a tsunami, and there were no reports of damage or injuries. President Sebastian Pinera appealed for calm and praised his government and Chileans in general for responding quickly. ”Today we’re better prepared,” Pinera said. “I think we’ve learned the lesson of Feb. 27, 2010.” Rodrigo Ubilla, the vice interior minister, said the navy had “totally discounted any risk of a tsunami.” Still, the strong earthquake frightened many Chileans, especially along the coast, where people quickly moved to higher ground. ”There was a preventive self-evacuation,” said Vicente Nunez, who directs the National Emergency Office, ONEMI. But he said Chileans could safely return home. Residents fled their homes in Talcahuano, a port city whose center was ravaged last year by huge walls of water that sent shipping containers and fishing boats into downtown buildings and streets, municipal spokesman Javier Gonzalez told The Associated Press. Skyscrapers swayed in the capital of Santiago, and in the inland town of Cauquenes, mothers ran into the streets carrying babies in their arms. -CBS News

Wild animals in Michigan on the move in search of food

February 11, 2011 - MICHIGAN - MORE FREQUENT SIGHTINGS. Coyotes and a number of birds of prey are being spotted more frequently in southeastern Michigan as they are growing in numbers and spreading out in search of food. This bald eagle has been hanging around the 34 Mile and McKay area for the past couple of weeks. Bald eagles, hawks and owls are federally protected.  Hannah Schauer, a wildlife technician for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR), said the increase in the number of coyotes in areas such as Armada, Bruce and Washington townships doesn’t surprise her. In addition to coyotes, Schauer said bald eagles, bears and a number of hawk species are moving southward from upper Michigan. -Romeo Observer
“Around the world, the reports coming in of urban encroachment of alligators, coyotes, bears, large game cats, as well as plagues of locusts, wasps, jellyfish, and other pests is testament that the homeostatic balance that once regulated the natural world is breaking down and the borders that separated man from natural wildlife habitats are dissolving.” The Extinction Protocol, page 294

Hundreds of dead birds found along Louisana highway

February 11, 2011LAKE CHARLES, LA (KPLC-TV) – The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is trying to figure out what caused the death of hundreds of birds in south Lake Charles. The birds were discovered on Thursday morning. More than 100 birds were scattered across Lake Street between Gauthier and Tank Farm Road; another hundred were found on Lincoln Road, about a mile away. Kori Legleu, a biologist with Wildlife and Fisheries, identified the birds as Tree Swallows, a kind of bird that travels in tight flocks. Legleu said the birds, which are common in Southwest Louisiana, were likely flying erratically when some of them were struck by passing vehicles. “It could be a lot of things,” said Legleu. “There are a multitude of reasons why we have bird die-offs and it happens almost every year. Most of the time, people don’t hear about it. It’s not anything I think the public should be concerned over.” Officials are awaiting the results of a necropsy, a bird autopsy, to know for sure. The preliminary results should be in, in about a week. The final results are expected in a few weeks. -KPLC Chanel 7

Tropical cyclone Bingiza heads for Madagascar

February 11, 2011MADAGASCAR -  Tropical Cyclone Bingiza poses the threat of damaging wind and flooding rain to the southwestern Indian Ocean island of Madagascar. Early Thursday morning, EST, the center of the new tropical cyclone lay about 580 miles, or 930 km, northeast of Antananarivo. Highest sustained winds were estimated by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center to be 45 knots, or almost 85 km/h. T.C. Bingiza was nearly stationary. Forecasters at AccuWeather.com believe that T.C. Bingiza will strengthen and drift mostly southwestward over open water through at least Saturday. Thereafter, a landfall on eastern Madagascar could take place. Faster movement than anticipated would make the landfall threat earlier than currently forecast. If Bingiza were to veer southeastward, on the other hand, it could ultimately threaten the Mascarene Islands of La Reunion and Mauritius. However, this scenario would take several days to unfold.  -Accuweather

The quakes in Tonga and Kermadec Islands

February 11, 2011 – What exactly are the 5.0 earthquakes which struck the Kermadec Islands and Tonga within a 7 hour period telling us? We believe we are witnessing some of the effects of the upheaval from the anomalistic seismic patterns we forecasted and saw in the Pacific on January 30. See: Anomalies in the Pacific
A planetary tremor event was also recorded between 15:00-1600 GMT.

Earthquake swarm rattles luxury Med region near Monaco

February 10, 2011FRENCH RIVERA – The Geo-Azur Laboratory confirmed that the first of these latest rumbles was registered at around 10.32am on the 8th February and hit 2.3 on the richter scale. The second, felt at about 2.02pm, had increased to 2.4 in its magnitude and finally came the third and strongest quake, which reached 2.8 ML. Although the fire department in Menton did not receive any emergency calls at the time of the first minor tremor, several residents in Monaco, from Fontviellle and Monte-Carlo in particular, phoned police two days ago to find out what was happening. Jena Luc Berenguer, Professor of the European Center of Valbonne, told press that the seismologists who recorded the movement under the Mediterranean Sea are not sure if all four were caused by the same fracture in the sea bed or if there is any link between the Menton and Monaco tremors at all. He added that although it is impossible to make any predictions, there was no great cause for concern at present. In fact if the technology was not in place to register signs of these ‘mini-quakes’, most of the region’s residents would not be aware that they were even happening. That is not to say that there is no risk of a more violent catastrophe hitting the area. The French Riviera and western Liguria are at the junction of south-western Alpes and Liguria basin, a region of moderate seismicity. The last episode of note was in february 2001 when a seismic wave of a maginitude of 4.6 was recorded 25km off the shores of Nice, and also one on 1st May 1995.  -Riveria Times

Giant locust swarms now serious threat to Australia’s crops

February 10, 2011AUSTRALIA - A RARE, giant breed of locusts has the potential to destroy crops in NSW overnight, the State Government says. The spur-throated locusts is a mainly tropical species found in Queensland and the Northern Territory but warm and humid weather has drawn them into NSW. Primary Industries Minister Steve Whan says the Government has a plan of attack to help northwestern NSW farmers control the largest outbreak in 40 years. “The much larger spur-throated locust is a ferocious eater and can completely destroy a crop overnight,” Mr Whan said in a statement.
“Insecticides are now being made available to farmers to control densely-populated spur-throated locust nymphs on their properties.” Rangers are also being deployed to help farmers identify the creatures, which have a spur or throat peg between their front legs. -Herald Sun

Twin quakes jolt Pacific near the Philippines

February 10, 2011Mindanao - Two big earthquakes struck under the Celebes Sea between the Philippines and Indonesia late on Thursday, the US Geological Survey said. The biggest quake, measured at 6.7 magnitude, hit 330 kilometres from the town of General Santos on the Philippine island of Mindanao, and roughly the same distance from Manado on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi. It was 512 kilometres deep, the USGS said. It came two minutes after a 6.5 -magnitude quake a few kilometres away and at a similar depth. The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre, based in Hawaii, did not issue a tsunami warning following the earthquakes. The area is part of the Pacific’s so-called Ring of Fire, a zone of frequent tectonic activity where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are common.”  -ABC.net
